ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Sonic Cyberfeminism 101: Hacking the Algorithms of Digital Discrimination is a 3-hour interactive workshop designed to empower artists, activists, djs and producers. This workshop will arm all creatives with the tools necessary to identify and challenge algorithmic bias, plus discriminatory practices prevalent in today's digital music landscape. We will explore the intersections of sound, technology, and intersectional cyberfeminism. Gain hands-on experience with accessible sound editing tools while learning how to use sonic interventions as a form of digital resistance. Through curated listening sessions, live demonstrations, and a collaborative "Sonic Solidarity Postcard" activity, we'll discover how to amplify underrepresented voices and harness the power of networked noise as a tool to disrupt oppressive digital systems. The session concludes with a Q&A, offering further guidance on incorporating Sonic Cyberfeminist practices into your creative and activist work.
This workshop will cover:
Fundamentals of Sonic Cyberfeminism and its role in digital activism
How sound can be used to challenge algorithmic bias in music technology
Ethical considerations for artists using sound as a tool for digital resistance
Demonstrations of accessible sound editing tools for sonic activism
Case studies of Sonic Cyberfeminist projects and their impact
"Sonic Solidarity Postcard" activity using simple online audio tools
